Our Blades are hand ground from O1 tool steel (used in our folders), forged 5160 or Damascus (laminated) steel and mated to a wide selection of beautiful and durable handle materials.
O1 and 5160 are the steels of choice for hard use knives, providing excellent toughness and edge holding ability. Equally as tough, our random pattern Damascus provides an extra touch of class with an aggressive cutting edge.

At the Lone Oak Metal Works blacksmith shop in nearby Sedan, Nebraska, several layers of steel are heated to welding temperature in a gas fired furnace and then forge welded together under the rapid blows of a 1934 Little Giant Power Hammer to form a billet of Damascus. Forging to obtain the rough shape is done by hand on a Vulcan anvil which was cast in the early 1900's. The blades are then hand ground and polished at the Spring Creek Knife Works finishing shop in Deshler prior to the heat treatment process. Each knife blade is brine quenched and carefully tempered to provide the best combination of hardness and toughness.

Handle materials range from locally harvested Nebraska woods like Black Walnut and exceptionally tough Osage Orange, to the exotic woods Desert Ironwood and Rosewood, to the virtually indestructible Micarta and G10. Each knife comes with a hand stiched 8 to 10 ounce leather (No.8, No.6 and No.4) or Kydex sheath (No.2).
Spring Creek Knife Works
I made my first knife in 1984, and have been striving to create the finest cutlery possible ever since. In 1997, Spring Creek Knife Works was conceived, named after a spring fed creek that runs through one of my favorite places to hunt, fish and explore as a youth (and still is today). I am committed to producing cutlery of the highest quality that is sure to become your constant companion and will provide a lifetime of daily use.
